Walking As A Source Of Limtiless Creativity — Part 01
Our first part, within this essay series, is centered on a single practice.
A single practice that you can use to harness the limitless creativity of walking.
Right after this part, there will be, as mentioned in the introduction, two more parts.
Each part is centered on another unique practice that serves the same function.
And, with that, let’s begin!
Clarify Your Intention
Right before you begin your walk, take a moment to clarify your intention.
Your intention can be anything.
Anything at all.
Some examples of a good intention — really, there is no such thing as a “good” intention, for what resonates with you is right — are as follows:
- A new business idea.
- A rich sense of vivid inspiration.
- A fascinating question that changes your perspective.
- A vast idea that excites you.
- A new subject that intrigues you.
And so on and so forth.
No matter your intention, though, make sure you clarify it.
Clarify what it is that you desire and what it is that you are looking for.
But, that’s not all.
Clarify what you would feel and experience, if your intention was a reality.
And, with that information in mind, set your intention.
Set Your Intention
Right after you clarify your intention, and all that it contains, you must set this intention.
To set this intention, take a nice, deep breath.
And, if you want, take several more deep breaths, right after that.
Right after you take these deep breaths, imagine that your intention is a reality.
You can imagine a series of images or sensations that evoke the reality or your intention.
Or, you may find it useful to appreciate your intention, as if it is a reality.
No matter what you do, really try to feel, if only for the briefest of moments, that your intention is a fact.
A fact of your life and your experience.
Even if none of it feels quite right — or, “quite real,” for that matter — just allow yourself to play with this act and, when you feel that you’ve done enough, move forward.
Go On A Walk
Soon after you complete the activities outlined above, you can go on a walk.
And, when you go on this walk, keep your intention in mind, while being open to what arises.
Much of what comes to you may not, in any clear manner, resonate with your intention.
But, if you are open to what arises, you may find that all of it is rooted within your intention, on some level, in a manner that satisfies your intention and, even, your deeper, more unspoken, desires.
Outside of that, you can walk anywhere you wish to go.
Some of my favorite places to walk, when conducting this practice and the two others outlined within this essay series, are my local parks.
Just walking around them, in an almost circular pattern, allows all manner of gifts to arise.
You can walk anywhere you wish to go, though. And, you can walk in any manner you prefer.
No matter what, just follow your intuitive instincts, while keeping your intention in mind.
And, with this in mind, know that the act of setting your intention is, in fact, a fundamentally creative act.
A fundamentally creative act that guarantees the fulfillment of your intention.
Even if your intention does not satisfy itself, throughout your walk, it will satisfy itself at some point.
And, as such, know that, on your walk, it is done, even if this fact does not present itself to you on the walk.
Just know that it is done, regardless of what appearances may suggest
Conclusion
The act of walking is a source.
A source of limitless creativity.
My experiences have taught me this and my hope is that these practices allow a similar notion to arise.
To arise within you, within your experience, and within your creative life.
