Trust In Yourself
Our subject today is “trust.”
Right before we dive into this subject, though, there’s one thing that must be made clear.
None of what you are about to read is “true” or “the truth.”
Rather, the concepts and ideas within this essay serve as an exploration of trust and what trust might mean, with regards to our own creative abilities.
Some of these ideas may be of use to you. Some of these ideas may fail to stimulate you.
No matter what, my hope is that this essay entertains and inspires you.
All Is Trust
Our every action is rooted in trust.
A trust that is both tangible and intangible; ephemeral, yet present.
Just as an example, going on a walk is an act of trust.
Or, an act that is rooted in trust.
Our trust is placed in our ability to navigate; the probabilities that define whether or not we will experience an unpleasant encounter or violent act; the relative orderliness of drivers; the strength and reliability of our bodies.
And so on and so forth.
Our every action is rooted in trust.
And, it is this trust that may, in fact, define the course of our lives.
Our lives are rooted in the forces we trust in and the possibilities that our trust engenders.
A person who distrusts the reliability of their body or the supposed safety/possibility of safety within their neighborhood may not, in fact, go on a walk.
And, in choosing to forfeit such a walk, they deprive themselves of specific possibilities.
You can apply this same line of thinking to anything; from getting a job to visiting another country to writing a story.
Our trust is what gives us life.
All that life is, and all that life can be, is rooted in trust.
But, with that being said, there may be more to this story.
Where Do You Place Your Trust?
Right before we dive into the notion at the center of this essay, here’s a question you may find valuable: within this very moment, where are you placing your trust?
Just give yourself a moment to think about where, exactly, you are playing your trust.
You may be sitting down, at this moment, on a chair.
So, with that in mind, you may be placing your trust in the engineers who created the chair and the sturdiness of this chair’s material; the people around you; your family; your job.
And so on and so forth.
Just give yourself a minute to consider what it is, exactly, that your trust has been placed into.
And, then, consider what this means.
Consider what this means for you and for those around you and the life you live.
Our trust is continually placed into other things and other people and other forces.
Our very existence is, in some sense, dependent on that which lies outside of us.
But, what if this is not, in fact, the case?
Rather, what if there is a far greater, and far more mysterious, component to all of this?
A component that is rooted within you.
A component that is rooted within your very existence.
What if? Just, what if?
You Are The One You Seek
Every single one of the ideas outlined above leads to a single, unifying concept.
The concept, in question, is as follows: you are the one you seek.
Or, rather, you are the one you can, and should, place your trust into.
All that you wish to be, and all that you yearn to experience, is rooted within you.
Your ability to imagine and envision and feel and conjure and invoke; and so on and so forth.
Right now, your trust may be placed in many, many things. And, there is nothing wrong with that.
Our existence is as such, though, that we are the one who creates all that we are and all that we can be.
To truly live and thrive and grow and transcend and exist and be, we must trust in ourselves.
To truly move forward and live the life we yearn to live, we must trust in ourselves.
And, in trusting ourselves, we must recognize that it is our trust in these other, seemingly greater, sources that serves as the animating force of our experience.
Rather than the stability of a structure or the infinite flow of probabilities — to name just two examples — serving as the creator of our experiences, it is, in fact, our faith in these sources and the outcomes they can produce that serves to create those outcomes.
Our very thoughts and feelings and imaginings serve as forces of creation and transformation.
Our goal, then, as creative beings, is to develop a new habit.
A new habit that begins as a conscious pattern of thought and ends as an unconscious experience.
Our goal is to consciously place our trust in ourselves.
Or, if such language is less-than-useful, to place this trust in the Universe or our Imagination and, in turn, our connection with such forces and the infinite creative power they are.
None of what you are or what exists for you is a result of something outside of you.
Everything exists as an emanation from within your infinite depths and, in turn, an experience that begins and ends within your infinite depths.
You can think and feel and imagine in new ways and, in doing so, your very existence will transform.
No one else can do this for you and nothing else can do this for you.
Your trust in such things, while powerful, is confining.
Or, rather, your trust in such things is a source of confinement.
A source of confinement that prevents you from engaging with the infinite possibilities available to you.
But, when you place your trust in that which is within you and your infinite creative possibilities, these creative possibilities become accessible.
You are no longer confined to that which is outside of you or inherently finite.
You are free to live and imagine and experience in all of the ways that you can imagine.
When you consciously remember this fact, your perspective shifts.
A neverending abundance of possibilities open up to you on a daily basis.
And, when you remember this fact repeatedly, on a daily basis, your trust shifts.
Your trust turns into a new habit of seeing and experiencing that is rooted within your infinite creative power.
Everything that composes your sense of self and sense of possibility, combined with what exists and what can exist, grows and evolves.
Your possibilities go from being finite and confined, to infinite and unrestrained.
All of this begins with trust.
The simplest act of trusting in yourself.
The greater act of living from a deep, unabiding trust in yourself.
Such an act may be frightening and uncertain.
But, in the end, such an act serves as a key.
A key to the infinite freedom that you are and the infinite freedom that can be.
Conclusion
Right before we sign off, it is worth reiterating that these ideas are not my beliefs.
Rather, they are ideas that fascinate and inspire me, even if they fail to hold much truth.
Even if there is little truth to these ideas — this seems unlikely, though, given my experience — there is power in adopting these ideas and trusting in yourself.
My hope is that this essay was enjoyable and inspiring.
