Our universe is infinitely rich with paths, possibilities, potentials.

And so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

Every single one of the paths, possibilities, and potentials — ad infinitum — in existence exist is rich with beauty, mystery, creativity, wonder, magic; and so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

Our universe is infinitely rich and, for this very reason, one of our goals, as human beings, is to explore.

Or, at least, that can be one of our goals.

To explore and engage with the infinite wealth that is the universe we live in.

And yet, even if we recognize the absolute divinity that is our universe, it isn’t always easy to find things that enamour and enchant us.

Sometimes, we can find things that enamour and enchant us, but the sheer weight of the infinite exploration that exists for us leads to inaction.

Going beyond inaction, and diving into the infinite wealth that we live within, can be a challenge.

But, it certainly doesn’t need to be.

Rather, there are certain practices that, when applied, serve two major purposes.

The first purpose is, of course, finding the paths and possibilities and potentials that excite you.

Paths and possibilities and potentials that enamour you with their own unique gifts.

The second purpose is diving into the paths and possibilities and potentials that excite you.

Just as you might expect, the purpose of this essay is to outline practices that serve those purposes.

So, with that out of the way, let’s dive in!

Your Favorite Topics Contain Multitudes

A “topic” is, according to Google’s Dictionary, “a matter dealt with in a text, discourse, or conversation; a subject.”

Given that definition, “topic” might not be the best word.

Rather, words such as “theme”, “passion”, “interests”, and “subject” might be more appropriate.

Even the phrase “favorite things” might be more akin to the central point of this section

No matter, though, for “topic” is close enough.

Topic. Subject. Theme. Idea.

And so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

All of these are close enough.

Close enough to everything else and, in turn, that which goes beyond everything else.

You see, every topic is, in essence, a multitude of topics.

Something as simple as “couches” is connected to threads as vast and varied as:

  • The art of building furniture.
  • Wood.
  • The history of other materials.
  • Trees.
  • Plants.
  • The mining industry.
  • Sculpting.
  • Carpentry.
  • Design.
  • Interior design.

And so on and so forth; endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

You can find, within every topic, a wealth of connections.

Connections. Associations. Links.

And so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

Connections that can take you all across the world and then right beyond the very edges of our world.

Given this fact, every single one of your favorite topics is infinite..

And, in turn, every single topic that exists is infinite.

You can dive into the sea of connections found within a topic and you will always find an infinite wealth of new things to explore, play with, and enjoy; ad infinitum

And, when you’ve become satisfied with the connections found within that topic, you can dive into the topics and themes — ad infinitum — that your previous topic contains within itself.

You never need to be bored, for there is always so much to explore, to learn, to play with, to experience; and so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

Diving Into The Infinite Depths Of The Sri Lankan Civil War

Recently, one of my favorite topics has been that of the Sri Lankan Civil War.

Something about Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lankan Civil War, fascinates me.

No, the war wasn’t good and, on some level, this fascination may be slightly inappropriate.

But, at the same time, this is a topic that compels me.

You can find, within the Sri Lankan Civil War, an infinite wealth of connections.

Connections that lead to all manner of other topics, subjects, ideas; and so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

Just to give you a rough, slightly incoherent, idea of what we’re talking about, here are some of the connections you can find within the “Sri Lankan Civil War”:

  • Sri Lanka, as a country.
  • The Sinhalese language.
  • Sri Lanka’s recent economic collapse.
  • The history of the Sinhalese and Tamil people.
  • Human rights abuses during the Sri Lankan Civil War.
  • Popular cuisine in Sri Lanka.
  • Weapons used during the Sri Lankan Civil War.
  • Buddhism.
  • Hinduism.
  • Islam.
  • The geography and ecology of Sri Lanka.
  • Sri Lanka’s relationship with India.
  • Sri Lanka’s relationship with the Maldives.
  • India.
  • The Maldives.
  • Wildlife in Sri Lanka.
  • Sacred sites in Sri Lanka.
  • What comprises Sri Lanka’s economy/GDP.
  • Sri Lankan cinema.
  • Farming in Sri Lanka.
  • Food production in Sri Lanka.
  • Organic farming, and the ban of synthetic fertilizers, in Sri Lanka.
  • Sri Lanka’s architecture.

And so on and so forth; endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

You can continue to write this list for an unending wealth of eternities and infinities; ad infinitum..

And, in doing so, you will continue to find new connections and associations — ad infinitum — each of which gives rise to its own infinite abundance of possibilities, paths, potentials; ad infinitum.

Sure, some of these connections are tenuous.

But, in the end, they serve as one part of the topic you are exploring and, as a result, are connected to an infinite network of other topics, ideas, themes; ad infinitum.

Every single one of the topics you find is a source of curiosity.

Curiosity and wonder. Wonder and mystery. Mystery and adventure.

Our focus is on that last one, “adventure”, as that’s where the real magic of exploration lies.

Infinite Adventure & Infinite Exploration

Every single topic offers an infinite wealth of adventures.

Every single topic within a topic offers an infinite wealth of adventures.

But, also, quests, experiments, journeys; ad infinitum.

And, well, you get the idea.

To find these adventures, you need to find something.

Something that interests you. Something that appeals to you.

And, then, you need to find what that topic is connected to.

Or, rather, the other topics your topic is connected to, similar to the “Sri Lankan Civil War” example above.

Right after that, you can take some of those topics and think about what adventures lie within that particular topic.

Right before you do this, remember that an adventure can, in essence, be anything.

Returning to our earlier example, let’s say you are interested in Sri Lanka, as a country.

You can find, within that general topic, an infinite wealth of adventures.

Some of these adventures are as follows:

  • Visiting Sri Lanka.
  • Picking up some Sinhalese phrases.
  • Familiarizing yourself with Theravada Buddhism.
  • Cooking a classic Sri Lankan dish.
  • Reading about Sri Lanka’s history.
  • Going to a Sri Lankan cultural exhibit.
  • Speaking with someone from Sri Lanka.
  • Figuring out how you could, if you wanted to, live in Sri Lanka.
  • Learning about the Sri Lankan Civil War.
  • Donating to charities that serve Sri Lanka.
  • Volunteering for a charity that works with Sri Lankan citizens.

And so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

Some of these aren’t very good. But, each one is, on some level, an adventure.

Or a quest, journey, exploration, experience; ad infinitum.

A new adventure that is its own unique possibility.

Right within this unique possibility is an infinite wealth of equally unique possibilities.

Just as an example, volunteering for a charity that works with Sri Lankan citizens can, and will:

  • Allow you to make new friends.
  • Open the doors to new career paths.
  • Give you new, valuable skills.
  • Allow you to change someone’s life for the better, in a way they will always remember.
  • Put you in contact with the love of your life.

And so on and so forth.

You never know what might arise from a new adventure! And, of course, that’s why it’s so fun.

Conclusion

Your life can be an extraordinary adventure.

My hope is that, in reading this essay, you recognize, and act on, that notion.

Regardless of that, though, thank you so much for reading!
