Sheathing The Sword Of Comfort

Right before we begin this essay, there’s something that must be clarified: none of what is written in this essay serves as “the truth” or, even, my beliefs.

Some of the ideas outlined in this essay are true, to an extent. And, some of these ideas do, in fact, encompass my beliefs.

But, with that being said, this is just a perspective.

A single, mildly unique, perspective, with its own set of implications.

My hope is that this perspective is, if nothing else, interesting. My deeper hope is that this perspective is actionable, allowing new possibilities to arise in your life with remarkable ease.

And, with that, let’s begin!

Comfort Is A Sword

Comfort is a sword.

A sword made of habit. A sword made of concentration. A sword made of finitude.

Comfort is more than just a sword; it is the sword.

Comfort is the sword that cuts through novelty and possibility.

Comfort is the sword that cuts through time and all that time allows for.

Comfort is the sword that cuts through what we do and what we dream to do.

Comfort is the sword that cuts through who we are and, even, who we dream to be.

Our reliance on the sword of comfort is an act that cuts through that which can be.

But, at the same time, this is not entirely true.

Rather, the sword of comfort serves to protect us.

To protect us from the challenges and dangers of living, moving, and dreaming.

To protect us from the pain of not being comfortable in our own skin, our own bodies, our own livelihoods, our own lives; and so on and so forth.

Without the sword of comfort, we would never be able to truly relax.

To relax and, within this relaxation, to think and meditate and reflect.

A failure to think, meditate, and reflect makes it far more difficult for us to sheathe the sword of comfort.

But, the key to this is embracing the gifts of comfort and, therefore, sheathing the sword of comfort when it is less-than-useful in allowing us to live as we wish to live and be as we wish to be.

The sword of comfort is a powerful force, but it cannot solve every problem.

Our capacity to live and be as we wish to be is, in almost all cases, rooted in the act of sheathing the sword of comfort.

If only for a little bit, that is, until the novelty and possibility we dive into becomes another series of steel bits and markings on our sword of comfort.

Sheathing The Sword Of Comfort

Sheathing the sword of comfort is a powerful act.

A powerful act that allows novelty and possibility to arise.

To arise and, then, to be acted upon.

But, that’s not all.

Sheathing the sword of comfort allows us to pursue that which we yearn for and choose to create.

Rather than existing within the confines of what is and what can be, as a result of what is, we can sheath the sword of comfort and go beyond what we accept.

And, in going beyond what we accept, something very special happens.

The “something very special” is as follows: we realize that there exists an infinitude of possibilities.

Every single one of these possibilities is available to us.

Right now, within this moment, we can engage with these possibilities.

We can step into these new possibilities and, in doing so, live as we wish to live.

But, in order for this to happen, we must sheath the sword of comfort.

Just for a moment or so, if possible.

And, then, another moment, if we can.

Soon enough, what was once uncomfortable and strange will become comfortable and familiar.

And, then, we must move on, sheathing the sword of comfort once again, so as to grow and evolve.

A New Habit

To sheathe the sword of comfort, you must do something that is uncomfortable.

Or, at least, slightly unorthodox, with regards to your habits and beliefs.

But, the trick of this isn’t just doing something uncomfortable, for the sake of it.

Rather, the trick is to think about what you want to do and what interests you and what compels you, with a special emphasis on things that are a little unconventional and uncomfortable.

And, then, you must take action on one of the items on your list.

Just go out there and do it.

And, in doing it, see what happens.

No matter what, something will happen.

Something interesting. Something memorable.

Something useful, in a form that may, or may not, be obvious.

All it requires is knowing what you want and, then, a willingness to sheath the sword of comfort.

No, not for very long; just long enough to move forward with the item on your list.

Conclusion

None of the ideas outlined in this essay are particularly truthful or, even, all that useful.

But, they serve as a source of interest and inspiration.

To me, that is.

My hope is that they served as a source of interest and inspiration to you, as well.

Regardless of that, though, thank you so much for reading!
