Memory Is The Key To Your Future
Our creative power is limitless. But, our creative power is often confined to the invisible chains emanating from our memories.
Memory serves as the source of who we are, what we believe, how we act, and what we believe is possible.
Memory can be both the prison cell and the warden.
But, memory does not have to be a source of confinement.
Rather, our memories can be used as tools for harnessing feelings, emotions, and sensations.
Feelings, emotions, and sensations are the keys to harnessing our limitless creative power.
The act of harnessing our limitless creative power towards desired ends is the secret to actualizing our deepest wishes and dreams.
No matter what your memories would seem to indicate, you possess the ability to transform your dreams and wishes into tangible realities.
Memory is one key to unlocking that door and creating all that you truly long for.
The Power Of Memory
Memory is, to a great extent, the source of who we are. But, memory is more than that, for memory is, perhaps above all else, the source of that which we can relate to.
Many of us — and, by “many of us”, I am only talking about myself — possess dreams and desires that, in the abstract, can be challenging to relate to.
Just as an example, let’s say your dream is to be wealthy. That’s a pretty common dream, and it’s also a dream that, for many, exists in a state of abstraction. Many people do not know what it really feels like to have extraordinary amounts of money in the bank. Therefore, feeling this dream as a present fact is a challenge, since there’s little you can relate to.
Even though you may not know what possessing vast amounts of money feels like, you can probably relate to, on some level, feelings of financial freedom, possessing ample amounts of free time, and feelings of security and support.
None of those feelings exist purely in the realm of conceptual abstraction. Rather, every single one of those feelings is rooted in memories that contain those feelings, as well as your imagination.
Engaging with what is relatable makes the act of feeling your desires far easier. For you are not conjuring feelings and emotions from the limitless depths of your mind — this infinitely vast realm that serves as both a creator of your experiences and that which is created by your experiences — but feeling that which you know and that which you wish to experience more of.
To know your desire means to be familiar with the feelings that emanate from the fulfillment of your desire. Relating to the accumulation of vast riches — or any other desire, for that matter — may be a challenge, but relating to feelings of freedom and security is often far easier, for these are feelings many of us can relate to and are familiar with.
To engage with the power of memory is to engage with the endless well of powerful feelings, emotions, and sensations your memories contain.
Appropriating the abundance of treasures found in those memories is the key to all that you desire and long for.
But, as you might expect, memory is just one ingredient in this recipe…
Memory & Imagination
Memories are powerful. But, living in your memories — the metaphorical past which is, as far as memory is concerned, often constructed and reconstructed during those moments of recollection — can only do so much.
For you to truly harness the limitless power of your memories, you must engage one other faculty: your imagination.
Through the use of memory and imagination, you can appropriate the riches of your memories by planting them within imaginal scenes and inner conversations — among other methodologies — that imply the fulfillment of your wish.
The next section of this essay will be all about how you can do that. But, right before we dive into the method, there’s one more key element to mention.
Even though many of us can relate to the various feelings contained within the dreams and wishes whose fulfillment we hunger for, there are some of us who possess dreams and wishes that go beyond our memories and all that they contain.
Let’s return to our earlier example and say that you possess a strong desire for wealth. But, you cannot relate to feelings of security or freedom. Perhaps, you’ve never felt truly free or secure, or you have, but that was a long time ago.
No matter the reason, you can engage with your present question and ask questions that transform the context and content of your experiences.
You may not know what it is like to be wealthy. But, presumably, you know what it is like to buy food for yourself or your family members.
So, what would it be like if you had twice as much money to spend on groceries every week? What about three times as much money? Four times as much money?
What would you buy? What would your family members buy? How does it feel having that money, and being able to fill up your fridge with good foods that you enjoy eating?
Let’s say that you have two days off, every week. If you had three days off, how would what feel? What would you do, during those four days?
What about four days off? Five days off? Six days off? What would you do? Are there any projects or goals you would begin pursuing, since you have all of that time off?
You can keep asking questions, while also immersing yourself in the feelings those questions evoke. The more you do so, the more familiar you become with your desire, and all that your desire entails.
Even though you may not possess any memories that relate to the exact circumstances those questions are suggesting, you can probably relate to those circumstances.
The reason for this is quite simple: they are merely additions to your present circumstances, rather than a complete transformation of your life and who you are in every possible facet.
You can relate to small — relatively speaking — transformations. Transformations, of that sort, evoke feelings that are familiar and easy to sustain, because you are not going too far beyond what is right in front of you and what you are familiar with.
Going To The Past; Going To The Future
For you to use this method successfully, you must know what you desire.
To know what you desire, you must know the contents of your desire with some degree of specificity, and you must be familiar with the feelings that will come from the fulfillment of your desire.
No matter your desire, simply taking some time to think about what your desire means to you and why you want it will give you the necessary answers to both of those concerns.
As soon as you know what you desire, take a moment to consider your memories.
Are there any memories that contain the feelings you must evoke to fulfill your wish? Are there any memories that contain the circumstances you are choosing to create? Are there any memories that contain the highest feelings of gratitude, passion, and bliss?
Taking the time to ask questions will give you the ability to find those memories. Once you know where those memories are, you are free to use them for any purpose.
Right after you find the memory you need, take a moment to revisit the memory.
Simply allowing the sensations, feelings, and emotions to come forth is all that is needed. But, if those elements are coming less readily than you wish, you can ask a few questions.
Back then, what was I feeling? Why was I feeling that way? What made those circumstances so desirable? What were some of my primary feelings during that part of my life?
Asking those questions will give you greater clarity regarding the feelings contained within those memories. Greater clarity will give you the ability to immerse yourself in those memories.
Just take a moment to do so. Put yourself back into the shoes of your younger self, without judgement, and let those feelings and emotions flow to you with speed and intensity.
Right after those feelings and emotions flow to you, and you are immersed, move your awareness towards a scene or inner conversation that implies your wish has been fulfilled.
For those who will be using a scene, this essay of mine may be useful. For those who will be using some kind of inner conversation, this essay may also be useful.
Let your scene or inner conversation play out, engaging your imagination and memory at the same time.
Remember your chosen memory, and those wonderful feelings. Remember the future you are creating, and the wonderful feelings you are choosing to evoke, express, and experience.
Let your memory and imagination come together for as long as you want. But, as soon as you feel done, let it go and, after that, move on with your day.
The process may appear complex. But, in truth, it is very simple. Just know what you want, choose a memory, return to that memory, then engage with a scene or inner conversation that implies your present desire is a fact.
You can perform this process in a short period of time, while engaging with a number of other tasks.
Unrelatable Wishes
Let’s say that you possess no memories that contain the feelings you wish to evoke. Anytime this is the case, you can ask questions — as described in the section right before the last — that serve as mere extensions and additions to your present circumstances.
Right after you ask those questions, make a conscious effort to feel the feelings pertaining to your responses. More often than not, this comes naturally, since questions automatically command the limitless power of your imagination.
Let yourself experience those feelings for a moment. But, keep asking questions, especially questions that expand on the last question. Let those feelings continue, and let yourself be swept up in the sea of fulfilled desires that you can relate to.
At any point, while asking those questions, you can move your awareness towards a scene or inner conversation that implies your wish has been fulfilled. By doing this, you harness the feelings already present, and move them towards a concrete desire that can now become a tangible fact of your life.
Conclusion
No matter what anyone says, there are always multiple paths and multiple routes to all that you desire.
The concepts and methods described in this essay are but a few concepts and methods that you can use to create and live the life you truly long for.
For you, these concepts and methods may resonate greatly. If that is the case, then I encourage you to explore and experiment. Just see what happens, and what comes from playing with these concepts and methods.
But, if none of what’s been written resonates with you, then find something else that speaks to you.
Remember, you are free to choose what concepts and methods you accept, just as you are free to choose the contents of the life you live and who you are as an individual.
