Living By Themes — Part 02
Each and everyone of us has, in one form or another, a sense of what constitutes a “good life”. It may be vague, or it may be specific; but we all possess an understanding of that which constitutes a good life.
For myself, a good life consists of good friends, a wonderful romantic lover, more than enough money to feel secure and to do what I want to do, time to pursue my creative passions and projects, as well as feeling both joy and excitement on a daily basis.
Within these general concepts, there are certain themes. Themes such as love, creativity, adventure, and wealth — my own definition of wealth, specifically — along with various others.
Each one of these themes can be turned into goals. But, in turning these themes into goals, the theme, and its purpose, is diluted and constrained to a particular end result. In reality, the theme, and the feelings that come from living that theme on a daily-basis, is the true End Result; rather than a goal that will, supposedly, lead to the End Result.
Defining The Themes You Wish To Live By
To begin living by the themes that you wish to live by, you must possess an awareness of those themes and what they constitute. We all possess a basic understanding of the themes we wish to live by, and because of that, entering this state of awareness is quite easy.
When thinking about the themes that you wish to live by, all you must do is simply think about what you don’t want. Right after you think of something that you definitely don’t want, think of the exact opposite of that. Then, think of the theme that such a desire represents.
To give you an example of this, one of the things that I don’t want is to work a job that drains me of the time and energy that I need to pursue my own projects, ambitions, and goals. The opposite of that is working a job that doesn’t take a lot of time or energy, leaving me more than enough to pursue the things that are truly important to me.
Within that general desire, there are themes regarding freedom — being free to pursue my projects, goals and ambitions — as well as time — having the time needed to pursue those things.
By engaging in that basic process, you won’t have any problems finding the themes that are in alignment with what you truly desire. And, when you find a new theme that is of importance to you, I recommend writing it down and making a list.
Engaging & Investing In Those Themes
When you know the themes you are choosing to live by, due to their value and importance to you, it’s important to engage and invest in those themes on a daily basis. By engaging and investing in the themes that are truly important to you, you live a life that is in alignment with those themes and the vision that you possess for your life — a “good life”, to be more specific.
To engage and invest in the themes that are important to you, there are a variety of practices that you can engage with. Every theme will, naturally, have its own set of unique practices and habits, and if these practices and habits are important to you, you should engage with them.
If you are unsure of the practices and habits that you should engage with, in order to live by and from that theme, then I have a recommendation for you. It involves using your Inner Conversations, and the endless creative power that they contain, to engage and invest in those themes and your direct experience with them.
To do this, all you must do is take a particular theme — we’ll say that the theme is living a life that is fun and full of adventures — and then you must engage with an Inner Conversation that comes from such a theme.
In the case of that theme, this Inner Conversation would probably look something like this..
“I Am Living A Fun Life. I Am Going On Adventures Every Single Day, I Am Engaging In Fun Activities, I Am So Grateful And So Happy For The Fun And Adventure That Is Present Within My Life. I Am Having A Blast And I Am Seeing So Many Cool Things And Doing Things That Are So Exciting And So Enjoyable And So Fun!”
The Inner Conversation can be anything, of course, but the important thing is to engage with the Inner Conversation as if you are living by, and experiencing, those themes right now. But, along with that, you must understand that your Inner Conversations have extraordinary power and that, by engaging in such an Inner Conversation, you are creating fun experiences and moments — as well as plenty of great adventures — in that exact moment.
Allowing Those Themes To Be A Part Of Your Day-To-Day Life
By continuing to engage and invest with those themes, and by making a conscious decision to live from that vision, you will experience those themes and live from them. But, in order for this to happen in the most effortless and joyous manner possible, there is one last thing that you must do.
Surrender.
All you need to know is the themes that are important to you, make the decision to engage and invest in those themes, and then surrender to your creative choices.
In doing that, you will live from the vision that you have constructed for your life. It may seem difficult or strange, when you begin, but as you continue to remember and engage with that vision, everything will simply fall into place, as if by magic.
