A Neverending Tower Of Infinity-Visions
Our intention, with this essay, is sharing.
Sharing what?
A vision of infinity that inspires me.
A Collection Of Sentences
Many of my essays on infinity feature sentences that look something like what you can find right below.
“No endings, limits, boundaries, conclusions; ad infinitum.”
The sentence clarified above is meant to convey something very specific.
A particular thing has no ending.
Just as an example, you can imagine a library with an infinite number of books. And, since there are an infinite number of books, you will never reach an ending to the quantity of books within the library.
Right within this sentence, though, there are other notions.
Other notions that suggest there are, in fact, no limits to the infinity we are speaking of.
Just beyond this absence of limitations, there are, in fact, no true boundaries or conclusions, either.
The last bit conveys one final idea: there is no limit to the absence of limits within a particular infinity.
That’s a large part of why I love the term “Ad infinitum.”
On its own, all of this is fine.
These sentences are effective and, to me, they are also rather evocative.
But, even though the above is true, it led me to a question.
What ideas/sentences are greater than the ideas conveyed within our sentence?
This question led me to sentences like “No finitude, endless transcendence, infinite beyond; ad infinitum.”
Writing sentences like that guided me towards a concept.
A concept that serves as the focal point for the remainder of this essay.
The Higher Sets
Just imagine a sentence.
Or, better yet, read a sentence.
“No endings, limits, boundaries, conclusions; ad infinitum.”
The sentence above contains certain ideas.
Vast ideas that are truly beautiful.
And, with that sentence in mind, imagine another sentence.
Or, again, read the sentence found below.
“No finitude, endless transcendence, infinite beyond; ad infinitum.”
This sentence contains ideas of greater vastness than the first sentence.
Or, at least, that’s my interpretation.
You can imagine a new sentence.
A new sentence that contains ideas of even greater vastness.
And, then, you can imagine a new sentence, right after that one.
You can imagine an infinite wealth of sentences.
Every single one of these sentences contains ideas of greater vastness than the previous vastness.
A neverending wealth of greater concepts.
Greater concepts of infinity. Greater concepts of transcendence. Greater concepts of vastness.
And so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.
If you went through these sentences for an eternity, you would never reach an end to them.
The same is true if you went through these sentences for an infinite number of eternities.
Or, if you transcended space and time, to explore them.
And so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.
A Neverending Tower
Our third idea is a simple visual.
Just imagine the sentences we outlined in the previous section.
And, then, imagine them, one on top of the other.
A tower.
A tower with no endings.
Or, for that matter, limits, boundaries, conclusions; ad infinitum.
You can traverse this tower at an infinite speed.
And, in doing so, you can transcend finitude, infinity, space; ad infinitum.
But, no matter what you do, you will never reach the top of this tower.
Something fun to think about.
Outside of that idea, though, there is one more idea to share.
You can imagine the sentences comprising this tower becoming more complex.
Some of these sentences would take thousands of years to read.
Others are etched from languages that our consciousness is unable to comprehend.
Some of these sentences are made from living infinities.
And so on and so forth, infinitely and endlessly; ad infinitum.
Just something fun to think about!
