A Method Of The Imagination

Our goal, with this essay, is to outline a fun, and remarkably useful, creative method.

You can use this creative method for nearly anything.

So, with that in mind, let’s begin!

A Story

On December 30th, of 2023, I watched a movie.

But, that isn’t important.

Rather, what is important is that, while watching that film, an image came to me.

A pleasant image that was nothing less than 1000 unique documents, listed in a folder on my PC.

Each one of these documents served as one part in a long series of idea lists.

Every single one of these idea lists served as a container, of sorts, for 100 unique ideas regarding why a particular idea was infinite, endless, and beyond limits; ad infinitum.

You can learn more about this passion, as it were, in “A Secret Passion.”

Right after this image came to me, a quick scene of me opening a document and finding “Idea #97,839” came forth.

The idea that appeared is rather personal — a peculiar blend of memetics and set theory — but it was novel, unique, and remarkably inspiring.

On some level, these ideas were familiar to me. But, in many other ways, they were unique.

My experience with the process that led to this idea — an imaginal scene, followed by letting an idea arise — inspired me to experiment even further with these basic notion

And, just as one might assume, it was these experiments that led to the two-part essay series you are reading.

Your Imagination Is Infinite

Your imagination is infinite.

No limits. No boundaries. No restrictions.

You can imagine that which exists; that which does not exist, but can; and that which cannot exist.

And so on and so forth, endlessly and infinitely; ad infinitum.

Even more than the above, though, you can obtain tangible results from the deliberate use of your imagination.

Just as an example, you can imagine a fantasy and, then, experience a shift in your emotions, as a result of that fantasy.

And, if your imagination is especially deliberate, you can bring that fantasy to life; that is my contention, although it is not the point of this essay.

Yet another, far more relevant, example is imagining something that does not exist, interacting with such a thing in your imagination, and then obtaining something that you can bring forth as a result of such an activity.

The act of imagining a fictitious list and, then, letting a unique idea arise, followed by you playing with that idea and using it to create something/express something/experience; this is the essence of our method.

Our goal, with the remainder of this essay, is to explore the essence outlined right above.

Our Method

Our method is quite simple.

Select an intention; your intention can be anything but, given the context of this essay, you may want to direct it towards something creative or imaginative.

Right after you select your intention, think of a space, object, tool, or idea — ad infinitum, truly — that can facilitate the intention you are choosing to bring forth.

Just as an example, if you want an idea, you can imagine a list of ideas, already existing, all of which contain the traits/elements you are looking for.

Give yourself a moment to imagine this list, without actually imagining what is on it.

You can imagine, for example, a list on your computer, with lots of little tables and sections.

And, to really strengthen the image outlined above, you can imagine opening it on your PC or, perhaps, your phone.

Right after you give this image some form and vividity, imagine scrolling to a random idea on this list.

Once you reach that idea, allow yourself to read it.

The first thing that comes forth, within you, is what you are looking for.

And, well, that’s about it; this is a simple, easy method that you can use in an infinite number of ways.

If you are looking for something, you can find it.
