A Conversation Before You Fall Asleep
Our subject today is conducting a conversation before falling asleep.
But, that’s not quite true.
Rather, our subject today is going beyond your current limits and circumstances, so as to embrace a greater, far more vivid, vision.
A vision that aligns with your deepest desires and yearnings.
To bring this vision to life, you are not imagining the thing you want.
You are, instead, imagining that you are the one who has created such a thing and, as such, can continue to do so with ease.
To accomplish all of this, you can conduct a conversation right before you fall asleep.
You will learn about this conversation within this essay.
Right before we begin, though, there’s something you should know: this essay is somewhat incoherent.
Really, it isn’t the best and, for that, my apologies.
My hope, though, is that the disparate concepts and practices in this essay resonate with you.
Resonate with you and lead to tangible results.
If they do, then that is wonderful. But, if not, then, again, my apologies.
A Conversation Before Falling Asleep
Right before going to sleep, you can begin a conversation.
A conversation with whom?
Yourself.
Or, really, anyone.
But, chances are, it will be with yourself and, then, another, within your imagination.
You see, the essence of this method is conducting an interview or commentary.
For this to work, you must speak as if you are being interviewed and asking questions or, in turn, are commenting on your past work.
Your past work, within this context, being what you wish to create.
Just as an example, let’s say you want to be a musician.
A musician known for being prolific and developing energetic, enthusiastic music that resonates with many, many people.
With this vision in mind, you can being conversing, as if you are the one who has actualized that vision.
You can imagine that you are commenting on your career or being asked questions during an interview or writing an autobiography; and so on and so forth.
The specifics matter far less than the substance of the conversation.
For, within this conversation, you are not you.
Rather, you are the you that has achieved and created what you wish to achieve and create.
And, with that in mind, this is familiar to you.
You are not particularly excited or enthused by these accomplishments or experiences, for you are familiar with them and, in turn, familiar with the vision you have brought to life.
Given the above fact, a certain measure of intensity or vividity is not necessary.
Rather, you can simply relax and conduct a pleasant, enjoyable conversation.
A pleasant, enjoyable conversation that goes over your work and your experiences.
And, of course, anything else you believe is worth sharing.
You can, and probably should, conjure certain feelings within this conversation.
Some of these feelings might include appreciation and the sense of being blessed.
No matter the feelings you conjure, though, you can take it lightly, in a pleasant manner.
All of this is meant as a playful experiment.
A way of opening new, rather interesting, possibilities.
Just focus on your vision and converse as if it is a reality and, in turn, has been for quite some time.
You are free to converse in the manner of your choosing and on the vision that most compels you.
My Brief Experiences
My first experience with this method was in 2019.
I wanted to be a successful writer and I wanted more money.
To bring this intention to life, I began conversing, with myself and, perhaps, with another — the memory is hazy — on the ways in which my career had grown and the security and freedom within my life.
And, in the end, that month was one of the most financially successful of my life. The months following it brought even greater financial rewards.
A number of years later — and just a few months ago — my goal was to be inspired.
To be inspired and overwhelmed with grand visions and concepts, each one waiting to be put onto paper and brought to life.
On some level, if nothing else.
To facilitate this, I began reflecting on a wealth of grand accomplishments.
Grand accomplishments that involved elaborate stories, films, games, technologies; and so on and so forth.
None of these had actually taken place — and many of them still haven’t — but I conversed as if they had and such things were familiar to me.
Within the last six-months or so, I have written over 100 stories and 70 essays, while also developing a wealth of games and systems that continue to aid me.
And, within this state of creativity, new ideas continue to arise with ease.
Just two nights ago — this experience serves as the inspiration for this essay — I began conversing about my music career.
My vision for this was vague and, to be honest, I did this without caring much for any particular outcome.
I conversed as if I had produced several albums, all of which contained music with a unique sensibility that resonates with me and, in turn, many others.
A wave of inspiration came to me the next morning and, since then, I have produced three new pieces and created a wealth of samples. Samples that will be used to create new, better, pieces.
Your Experiment
Right now, select a vision.
A vision of who you wish to be and what you wish to experience.
For this experiment to be particularly illuminating, select a vision with some weight on it.
Some genuine resonance.
Your vision might be to create a new technology or write a great book.
No matter what it is, select that vision.
And, then, make a promise to yourself.
Promise yourself that, tonight, you will, before falling asleep, conduct a conversation. A conversation that occurs within a new you. The you that has brought your vision to life.
Promise that to yourself and, then, when the time comes, do so.
You can conduct this conversation out loud or within your mind.
No matter what you do, though, conduct this conversation as if it were true.
Don’t get me wrong, you can be playful and silly. But, take it seriously, too, to some degree.
And, when you do so, allow yourself to feel some measure of appreciation or gratitude for what you have created and the fact that your vision is alive.
Alive and familiar, for you are the you that you once wished to be, and that is a fact.
With this notion in mind, just see what happens.
Just see what happens when you go beyond the expectations and assumptions that define you as you are now, within this moment, to the one you wish to be.
You may be very surprised at what arises. And, you may be very surprised at the ease in which such things arise.
Conclusion
My apologies for the slightly incoherent nature of this essay.
Sometime in the future, this essay will be rewritten.
Rewritten, so that it’s easier to understand and, perhaps, more impactful.
No matter what, though, please give this method a try.
You may find the results to be quite exciting.
Regardless of what you choose to do, though, thank you so much for reading this essay!
