6 Ways To Become Unstuck

In life, there are those moments — some of them are long, some of them are short — where you just feel stuck. Being stuck is, I would argue, a natural part of life. It’s there to teach us something; to illuminate paths, choices, and opportunities that would, otherwise, be very difficult for us to discern.

To move from a stuck state, to a state of bliss and passion, there are many practices, habits, and activities that we can engage in. Within this essay, I’ve outlined six of them. Each one has been absolutely vital in allowing me to move into a state far more beautiful than the last, while also providing me with a greater sense of awareness and a deeper love of that which surrounds each and every one of us.

Invest In Something New

Everyday, we engage in an endless series of thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Most of the time, these thoughts, feelings, and emotions are recycled from the days prior. Because of that, we continue to invest in the same conditions and circumstances that we are experiencing in that moment, thereby ensuring that they continue to perpetuate themselves.

One of the easiest ways to move out of a “stuck” state and into a state where life flows in a far more joyous and passionate manner is to invest in something new. By investing in something new, you create that thing, and you begin to live from it.

To invest in something new, you need to think about what you would like to be experiencing in this moment. If you are feeling blocked in matters of love or money, to name two very common examples, then you must make new investments that align with your desires regarding love or money.

For myself, I tend to engage in short Inner Conversations regarding the blockages that I am feeling. But, I also take the time to feel the feelings that come from feeling loved, feeling wealthy, being grateful; and various other states.

By taking the time to invest in something new, using whatever tool or methodology you prefer, you create new circumstances and conditions, all of which allow you to move into a passionate and joyous state.

Take A Walk

No matter what’s going on, I find that a nice, long walk always makes things better. Even if I’m living from pure love, joy, and passion, a good walk just makes those feelings even more vivid, vibrant, and beautiful.

When you are feeling stuck, taking a walk is an action of extraordinary power. Taking a walk allows you to move your body, to pass through various geographic realms, to engage with the people around you, and to perceive things that you may not have ever seen before.

If you are really feeling stuck, though, then there’s a particular way of walking that I have found to be exceptionally useful. It is a way of walking that consists of beginning your walk with a particular intention — the intention can be anything, but if you’re stuck, a good intention is to feel rejuvenated — and then making the conscious decision to walk to and through places that you don’t normally walk to and through.

By setting an intention, you walk with purpose, and you allow the energies and forces of the world to move with you and towards you, allowing for the fulfillment of your intention and the creation of a deeper connection between you and that which surrounds you. By walking to and through places that are unfamiliar to you, you allow yourself to experience sights, sounds, and smells — among other pieces of sensory information — that are completely novel. In doing this, you create new neural-pathways, and open yourself up to synchronicities and coincidences that are potentially transformative.

Ask A New Question

Someone wise — I don’t remember who, unfortunately — once said that our lives are defined by the questions that we ask.

If we ask bad questions, we tend to live a life of precluded fulfillment. If we ask good questions, we tend to live a life of joy, passion, and fulfillment.

We are always asking questions, in one way or another. That’s one thing human beings are exceptionally good at. But, it isn’t very often that we take the time to think about the questions that we ask both ourselves, and the world, on a daily basis.

Perhaps, more importantly, many of us fail to consider the kinds of questions that we wish to pursue and explore. We, instead, engage with our day-to-day-lives devoid of powerful questions, failing to nurture the endless curiosity and creativity that lives within us.

By taking the time to think about the questions you’ve asked in the past, and how those questions have gotten you to where you are today, you allow for greater and more fruitful questions to be asked. By taking the time to write out those questions — setting aside one-hour to write one-hundred important and open-ended questions is an extremely valuable practice — you take the first step in a powerful journey that, almost without effort, aligns you with the endless creative energies buried within your infinite depths.

Give Yourself Permission To Feel Stuck

Everyone becomes stuck every now and then. Feeling stuck is a part of life, and as such, there is no need to actively fight against it or to shame yourself for experiencing such a state.

When you are feeling stuck, give yourself permission to feel that way. Give yourself permission to feel stuck, to feel stagnant, and to feel uncertain as to what needs to be done, and as to what you are going to do.

Know that, when you are feeling stuck, there’s nothing wrong with and there’s certainly nothing for you to be ashamed of. Feeling stuck is okay, it’s normal, and even though it sucks, it is a part of life and it does serve a very particular purpose.

By giving yourself permission to be stuck, by allowing yourself to feel stuck, you give yourself the love and respect that is needed in such times. In doing so, you allow the true purpose of this period to be revealed, while also giving yourself the freedom that’s needed to continue moving forward and to be who you are meant to be.

Meditate On What “Being Stuck” Is Teaching You

As mentioned, there’s nothing wrong with being stuck, and being stuck is a natural part of life. Beyond that, it is also tremendously valuable, for when we are stuck, there is always a lesson to the experience that, when recognized and implemented, allows us to live a life of greater joy, passion, and fulfillment.

To learn what this lesson is, I have found that lying down in a quiet space — or, alternatively, taking a walk — and gently directing your thoughts towards the feelings, assumptions, and questions that come from being stuck is incredibly valuable. Even if there is no easily-discernible lesson, the awareness that comes from such a practice is worth the time and energy this practice takes.

When we understand what this period of being stuck has taught us, we are able to see the entirety of the event from a new perspective. Knowledge that was always available, but invisible to us, becomes both accessible and applicable. Paths that were desirable, but difficult to discern, become illuminated and effortless to walk. The content of life itself becomes more joyous and fulfilling, for we have learned what needed to be learned and we can now live from what was meant for us.

Remind Yourself Of Who You Truly Are

You aren’t just what everyone else says you are. You, my friend, go beyond words, beyond thought, and beyond the perceived scope of your imagination.

You go beyond the limitations, definitions, forms, and assumptions that define the image that you have for yourself, and the image that others have for you.

You are a being whose true nature is beyond mere feelings of stagnation or immobility; for your true nature is that of being infinitely vast and endlessly wondrous.

No matter what, you must do everything in your power to live from this truth, for in doing so, you will naturally live the life that you are meant to live and become who you are meant to be.

If you are feeling stuck, uncertain, and discontent, then, if nothing else, remember who you are and allow that awareness to guide you towards where you are most needed.
